Building Blocks Program

Children will enjoy learning in these fun, introductory classes designed to teach movement and coordination and to promote self-esteem and discipline. The classes will include tap, ballet, jazz, tumbling basics and creative movement. Children will build stronger, more coordinated bodies by expanding on basic child behaviors like skipping and jumping while being introduced to a broad range of dance forms. These classes are designed to ready students for dance classes in all disciplines.

Combination Classes

Combination classes are perfect for the dancer who wishes to study all dance forms. Combos I-A, I-B, II-A & II-B will include tap, jazz, and ballet, combos III & IV will include tap and jazz. Al Gilbert's graded tap syllabus will be used in all tap portions of class along with supplementary methods to emphasize proper technique, rhythm, timing, musicality, and precise tap sounds. The jazz segment of this class will teach jazz terminology and skills necessary to complete jazz 1, 2, 3, or 4 in our syllabus. The ballet portion of class is the most important part in becoming a strong dancer. Students will work on body placement, flexibility, control and gracefulness. Combination classes will set all children on their way to becoming well-rounded dancers. (Dancers who are studying at the Combo III or IV level are strongly encouraged to also enroll in a separate ballet class.)

Ballet

Disciplined training in classical ballet technique provides the foundation for the development of the dancer. These classes will teach the dancer proper body alignment, stretching and strengthening techniques, coordination, gracefulness and correct French terminology used in all dance classes around the world. Because ballet provides the foundation for all styles of dance, it is not only essential for the child with an interest in classical ballet training, but also for the dancer looking to improve her/his technique in all other forms of dance.

Jazz

Students will enjoy exercises to improve strength and flexibility, turning and jumping progressions and center-floor combinations. Jazz technique classes are often set to appropriate pop music.

Lyrical

Lyrical dance combines jazz and ballet technique. Dancers will learn to interpret song lyrics and express the meaning through movement.
